EPFL uses graphene to measure fractional electric charges

The research concerns quasiparticles whose effective charge is a fraction of the electron's charge, not fragments of an electron.
EPFL researchers report a graphene device for measuring fractional electric charges. Under extreme conditions, electrons can behave collectively and give rise to quasiparticles that act as if they carry a fraction of an electron's charge. The research examines these collective quantum phenomena.
